Become a member of the FFL student team!
The Fayetteville Free Library (FFL) is nationally and internationally renowned for its innovative programs, services, spaces, and collections. It has been named a Library Journal Five Star Library for six years, and is the home of the first library makerspace in the United States. In 2014, Executive Director Sue Considine was honored in Washington D.C. as a White House Champion of Change for her leadership and work developing a team of dynamic professionals, support staff, and community members who offer cutting-edge library services to an engaged community. Through speaking opportunities and innovation tours, the FFL has created partnerships inside and outside of the library industry, and has influenced librarianship on local, national, and international scales.
As an FFL intern, you will:
- Be part of a dynamic team
- Design and implement innovative ideas
- Partner with a professional librarian
If you can imagine it, you can do it! We customize internships to meet your interests and skills! Have an idea? Tell us about it! Need a place to start? Check out some of the areas we are innovating in, below.
FFL Summer Reading Internship:
During this internship, you will gain hands on experience and participate in planning and executing innovative summer reading programs. Last year we piloted a day camp, Geek Girl Camp; you can read the article about it on School Library Journal’s website here. Also, check out our Flickr album with pictures of the variety of programs we ran based in STEM learning on our website. We plan to continue this high caliber program for Summer Reading 2015 with the help of current students. If you are interested in learning how a successful Summer Reading program is run or have your own ideas for a program series this summer, please consider applying!
FFL Fab Lab Internship:
Come play a meaningful role in the evolution of the FFL Fab Lab, the first makerspace developed within a public library! During your internship, you will receive in-depth training on transformative technologies including 3D printers, laser and vinyl cutters, CNC mill, professional design software, and more. You will work as a part of a staff and volunteer team to provide direct service to the community, capture stories and experiences happening in the FFL Fab Lab, provide technology training and instruction, and assess and improve our current program. You will develop instruction opportunities and print materials, investigate community partnerships, and more. You will have the opportunity to develop and execute hands-on programs that match your interests and our community needs.
FFL Creation Lab Internship:
Be a part of the transformation of Fayetteville Free Library’s Creation Lab, the library’s digital makerspace! During your internship, you will help staff members integrate new technologies into the FFL Creation Lab, including video creation and music creation equipment. This internship will focus on improving community usage of the Creation Lab through technology integration, promotional efforts, and instructional opportunities, including online, face-to-face, and self-guided. One tangible outcome will include the development of step-by-step project cards that community can use for inspiration and guidance when they drop into the space.
