Green Lakes State Park
Green Lakes State Park is a geological gem located about three miles northeast of Fayetteville, NY. The park encompasses over 2,100 acres of land, including a public beach, an 18-hole golf course, and miles of trails. The park’s focal points are Green Lake and Round Lake. These deep pothole lakes are unique for being two of the very few lakes in the world that have layers of water which do not intermix, making them “meromictic.” The Green Lakes area has been a popular recreation area for more than a century, utilized by visitors during the summer for camping, hiking, biking, golfing, and swimming, and during the winter for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
